Final Character Design - VIIX
This is the final design for the main character VIIX. I wanted to have a pirate sort of look to her, but keep a modern-edgy type of style about her clothes.
VIIX - My first short story.
My first idea is based off a game I designed in my first year of Uni called VIIX. Here is the initial narrative which I will work off:
The story is set in the year 4190, in a world where the world has been ravaged of its natural beauty and pirates roam the land. Robotics and mechanics are very prevalent in society being used to replace missing limbs and patch up wounds. Every day a baby is born, each with its own unique gift. This can range from things like abnormally good strength, to telekinesis, etc. But if the child is to be allowed to live, they must have a power that can be used in society. If not, they are killed. Each child is given a number, a Roman numeral which is branded on them at birth to determine their status in society, I being the highest position. This story is based on our character VIIX. VIIX is an unknown Roman numeral, and her unique gift means she is most dangerous but most precious commodity to anyone is this world. This is because her gift is that she can remove anyone's power, making them a target of the government. However, she can also grant new powers, making her very valuable. VIIX is the glitch in the governments tight system, and an extremely dangerous glitch, also being able to control the environment around her.
The hunter is also the hunted.
So this is my basic narrative outline, giving the main character, the world and the basic narrative. Through storyboarding I will decide where I want to go with the first book. I first started with creating the main character VIIX.

A few starting sketches
So here is my development of my Manga style. I wanted to experiment with different looks to give me my own unique style. I first started with female eyes. I really love the large eyes on female characters, my favourites being the bottom right. I feel that style has a lot of character and can have colour to it as well.
Next the male eyes. As much as I love the large eyes, however my favourites are probably the third down on the left as they are large but still very male.
I then worked on facial expressions I could work with.
I then put together some facial structures to help give me form to my characters.
My first post. :)
Well, here it goes, my name is Sophie and I have been a bit unsure for a while what I want to pursue as both a career and a passion. I have cycled through a few different paths, fine art, photography, film making, games art, but there is one passion of mine which will always be a joy of mine. Writing and drawing Manga. I have always loved all things Japanese, have been to countless comic expos in London and cosplayed. I stared drawing Manga and characters when I was about 15, even writing my own 48 page comic called Mad World, which is yet to be completely finished. Looking back at it, I was very proud with what I had made, however being young, the story was slightly lacking! Here's a few random pages:
I quite liked this Manga but I felt I needed to move onto something else. I have now been doing Games Art and Design at Norwich University of Art for two years now, and although games art isn't the path I want to take as much any more, I feel this course has really helped me with my art and I am going to use my final year to develop my style and create an Anime style game. So now, I am here. I am at the point where I am developing short stories and putting them onto paper to ship to UK publishers. My work is going to be on my DeviantArt page, on here and on my Facebook page as well as Manga forums so any support would be amazing! Watch this space! :)
